An economics high school textbook, The Future Generation High School Economics Textbook, published by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, is gaining popularity.
The FKI said from May 25, when it decided to independently distribute the book, to June 11, some 14,000 books have been ordered.
Among the 12,000 books ordered from May 25 to June 5, 4,700 books were bought by 37 high schools nationwide. Individual students and parents ordered another 2,100 and 1,500 books, respectively.
Others who ordered the book included colleges for teaching liberal arts students, and helping students with employment examinations after graduation, military camps for educating soldiers, SMEs that educate the newly-recruited, and private cram schools for teaching students how to write essays.
Park Chan-ho, a managing director of the FKI, said, At the beginning, people purchased the book out of curiosity, but now it is being sold to those who have heard about how good it is.
Song, an economics teacher at Busan International High School, said, The textbook has up-to-date information and has been written in detail about the Korean economy in a way unlike other textbooks.
