SK has won two important victories this season against its Seoul rival Samsung.

Yesterday, SK beat Samsung on its home court at Jamsil Student Gymnasium, 98-84, in an overtime showdown.

Samsung played SK for the first time this season last weekend at Jamsil Student Gymnasium and lost 79-90. SK’s Bang Sung-yoon scored 34 points, while Samsung’s top player Lee Gyu-seob was held to 10 points by Bang’s defense. Bang remarked after the game, “Coming to the game and focusing on Lee’s defense turned out to be all right.”

Yesterday’s game had a completely different feel than the first game. Lee Gyu-seob scored 22 points through the third quarter, with five three pointers, whereas Bang Sung-yoon had only managed 8. At the end of the third, the score was 63-56, with Samsung in the lead. Things looked favorable for Samsung at that point.

But Bang exploded the moment the fourth quarter began. He scored five points in a row, including a three pointer, narrowing the score, and swished in two consecutive three pointers, tying the game at 67-67. The game became fierce, and went into overtime.

SK dominated overtime, carrying over its momentum from the fourth quarter. SK’s Kim Tae-sul and Bang Sung-yoon each scored 6 points, giving SK an 84-78 lead. SK neutralized Samsung’s offense by pressing hard on defense. Bang scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, and another 7 during overtime. He finished the game with 28 points, the most in the game.

Samsung only scored six points in overtime, with four by Terrence Leather (26 points). Lee Gyu-seob (23 points) was on fire until the third, but cooled down after the fourth quarter, only adding one point afterward.

In other action, defending champion Mobis lost its sixth consecutive game yesterday. Mobis was up against KCC 57-50 until the third quarter in a home game in Ulsan, but failed to keep the lead in the fourth, losing the game 69-71. KCC’s Seo Jang-hoon (17 points, 6 rebounds) had 9 points in the fourth, leading his team to victory.
