Park CY scores season`s 11th, Lee CY nets 4th in Europe

Two Korean soccer players based in Europe scored goals Saturday to help lead their teams to victory, winning praise from the media of their respective league`s countries.

○ Park CY scores season`s 11th

In France, forward Park Chu-young of AS Monaco led his team to a 1-0 home victory over Lille at Louis II Stadium by hitting the game`s lone goal in the 12th minute, his second goal in as many games.

With his 11th goal of the season, Park is ranked 10th in scoring among strikers in the French league but tied for eighth overall. His ranking fell two notches in general scores that include minutes played.

The league`s top scorer is Moussa Sow of Lille.

With two consecutive wins, Monaco jumped to 15th in the standings and escaped relegation.

As the main striker, Park intercepted a back pass in the 12th minute and beat man-to-man coverage by Lille goalie Mickael Landreau to score into an empty net. Park was replaced by George Welcome in the 79th minute.

The French sports newspaper L`Equipe gave Park the highest rating of seven points for the game along with teammates Jean Jacques Gosso and Stéphane Ruffier.

○ Lee CY nets season`s 4th goal

In the English Premier League, Bolton Wanderers midfielder Lee Chung-yong netted his fourth goal of the season against West Ham United with a header in the 20th minute in a 3-0 win.

With four goals and seven assists, Lee is ahead of Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung in offense. Starting off as a right wing, Lee played for 79 minutes before being replaced with Bolton leading, 3-0.

The English sports channel Sky Sports gave Lee a rating of seven points, the second highest on the team.
