Samsung chief`s listed stock value nears $10 bln

The combined value of listed company stocks held by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee has topped 11 trillion won (9.8 billion dollars), the Korea Exchange and chaebol.com said Sunday.

The valuation of listed Samsung company stocks held by Lee was worth 11.16 trillion won (9.84 billion U.S. dollars) as of the market close Friday. The value of his stock holdings soared due to the surge in Samsung Electronics` stock, which closed at a record high 1.37 million won (1,212 dollars) Friday.

Lee holds 4,985,464 shares of Samsung Electronics common stock (3.38 percent) valued at 6.85 trillion won (6.04 billion dollars) and 12,398 shares of preferred stock (0.05 percent) valued at 9.99 billion won (8.81 million dollars).

His stock holdings in Samsung Life Insurance (41,519,180 shares of common stock or 20.76 percent) are valued at 4.14 trillion won (3.65 billion dollars) and those in Samsung C&T (2,206,110 shares or 1.37 percent) are worth 168.15 billion won (148.2 million dollars).

The stocks owned by Lee`s wife Hong Ra-hee, former president of Samsung Leeum Gallery, rose in value to 1.49 trillion won (1.31 billion dollars) and those of their son Jae-yong also increased to 1.15 trillion won (1.01 billion dollars).

Chairman Lee is trailed by Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo. The combined value of stocks held by Chung amounted to 7.3 trillion won (6.43 billion dollars) as of Friday’s close.

Next on the list was Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun with 3.13 trillion won (2.76 billion dollars); followed by Chung Mong-joon, former chairman of the ruling Saenuri Party who heads Hyundai Heavy Industries, with 2.23 trillion won (1.96 billion dollars); Seo Kyung-bae, chairman of Amore Pacific, with 1.96 trillion won (1.72 billion dollars); and Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, with 1.95 trillion won (1.71 billion dollars).

Then came Shin Dong-bin, chairman of Lotte Group, with 1.73 trillion won (1.52 billion dollars); Lee Myung-hee, chairman of Shinsegae, with 1.69 trillion won (1.49 billion dollars); Shin Dong-joo, vice president of Lotte Japan, with 1.66 trillion won (1.46 billion dollars); and Kim Taek-jin, president of NCsoft, with 1.58 trillion won (1.397 billion dollars).
