Samsung Electronics said Thursday that it has begun mass production of the worlds fastest 64GB embedded memory card to be used for mobile devices. Named the 64GB eMMC Pro Class 1500, the device can read data at up to 130 megabytes per second and write at 50 megabytes per second, about four times as fast as existing models.
The new device also can process data more than five times faster than external memory cards used on mobile devices. The NAND flash memory-based product enables mobile device developers to produce gadgets with thinner designs thanks to its 1.2 millimeter thickness.
Samsung said it expects that high-performance smartphones and tablet PCs equipped with the memory device hit the market in the second half of this year, supporting faster streaming of 3-D and full HD videos.
