The 2013 Electronics and IT Industry Fair opened doors Monday at Kintex in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. Marking its 44th year, the show was joined by more than 800 companies in 22 countries and will continue until Thursday. This year`s motto is "Creative economy, People`s Happiness and ICT." Major electronics and IT companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Qualcomm and Panasonic, will showcase their newest products and technologies there.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics engaged in a state-of-the-art competition by unveiling curved OLED TVs and UHD TVs.
Samsung Electronics placed 98-inch and 85-inch UHD TVs on the very front of the booth. It held an exhibition of endangered animal species through ultra-high definitions of Samsung UHD TV to bring visitors to a jungle experience. The same zoo exhibition was held in Beyond Museum in southern Seoul in August and had attracted good response.
LG Electronics installed an ultra-large screen at the hall entrance, by connecting 49 55-inch 3D commercial large format displays. It also unveiled full HD display laptops and all-in-one PCs. LG Display released the world`s thinnest 3.6 millimeter bezel video wall linking eight 55-inch large format displays.
Component makers also joined the bandwagon. Samsung Electro-Mechanics unveiled a wireless battery charging technology that enables charging three smartphones at one time. LG Innotek displayed image stabilization 13 megapixel camera module and a flexible LED lighting module.
On the flexible display, Samsung Display CEO Kim Ki-nam said, "The project is going well as scheduled with cooperation with our client company (Samsung Electronics)," hinting at imminent launch of flexible smartphones.
