LG Electronics will hold launching events of its strategic smartphone "LG G3" in six cities around the world in May. According to electronics business sources Wednesday, LG Electronics will hold the events in London, New York and San Francisco on May 27, and in Seoul, Istanbul and Singapore on May 28. The debut of the new smartphone will be made globally within 24 hours. It is the first time for the company to hold launch events in six cities worldwide.

LG G3 will spec a QHD display, which offers resolution four times the existing HD display. Having released LG G2 in August last year, LG initially planned to unveil G3 during the second half of this year, but decided to move up the release date for strategic reasons. Samsung Electronics is known to release new Galaxy S5 model with a QHD display in June, which prompted LG Electronics to launch the G3 faster to preempt the QHD smartphone market.

Jeong Do-hyeon, president and chief financial officer of LG Electronics, told audience Tuesday at a briefing session for LG Electronics earnings for the first quarter of 2014 held at its headquarters in Seoul, "We plan to move up the release date of G3 given market conditions and competitive landscape," adding, "It will make a global debut at the end of May."

Industry sources interpret LG Electronics` preemptive release is making a winning move. It aims to prolong sales of the LG G3 to beef up revenue and strengthen brand power. It appears that the company has decided to release its upcoming flagship phone in May when demand is up, instead of in July or August when people go for summer vacation.

G3 is known to launch with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 3-gigabyte RAM, a 32-gigabyte storage space and a 13 million pixel camera on the phone`s back side. The user experience (UX) also features "Knock Code" and "Rear Key," which have been embedded on LG`s premium phones.
