Christopher Nolans sci-fi movie "Interstellar" is likely to join the "10 million club" this weekend at the earliest. According to Korea Box Office Information System, the science fiction film has drawn 9.78 million audiences as of Wednesday, for about 40 days since its release in Korea on Nov. 6.
If Interstellar breaks through the 10 million admissions level, it will become the third movie to set the record as imported film following "Avatar" (2009) and "Frozen" (2014). If domestic movies are included, the space adventure film will be the 13th to cross admissions milestone.
It is unprecedented that this year has seen four 10 million club movies - The Attorney; Frozen; Myeongnyang; Interstellar - in one year. In 2012, only two movies - The Thieves and Masquerade - surpassed the threshold of 10 million admissions.
