Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Zootopia" has been setting a rare record of "reversing the box office trend," since its release on Feb. 17. According to data from the integrated computer network of movie theaters at the Korean Film Council on Saturday, "Zootopia" ranked No. 1 in box office ticket sales by attracting 148,700 moviegoers as of Saturday, beating over "Spirits’ Homecoming" and ''London Has Fallen."

Generally, commercial movies attract the largest number of moviegoers in the first week, and see moviegoers gradually decline thereafter. "Zootopia" ranked fourth in box office ticket sales by posting the daily maximum of about 140,000 on Feb. 12, the first weekend after the release. However, the movie posted the daily record of about 247,000 on March 1, the second weekend, to rise to second in box office ticket sales. “People learn it is fun to watch through words of mouth advertisement, and many people are watching it twice,” said the PR agency for the animation movie.

The geographical background of the movie, where only animals live together, is Zootopia, a futuristic residential town of animals. Animal characters are heroes in the movie, which is actually closer to an "animation for adults." In the movie, Judy becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, investigates and solves a case involving people who went missing in succession in the city, in collaboration with con artist wolf Nick.

The movie satires modern society through the rabbit police officer who lives in a tiny studio after moving to the city from country, and the wolf who ended up becoming a con artist because of his prejudice against other species.
