The Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) participates annually in Maison&Objet Paris, the international fair showcasing "decoration, design, and lifestyle" consumer goods. KIDP's Design Korea Exhibition Hall at the event has served as a steppingstone for small and medium-sized businesses with design excellence to reach broader exposure and market opportunities.
This year, KIDP is participating from September 5 to September 9, joined by Korean design businesses showcasing furniture, stationery, tableware, and more. In collaboration with IT Donga, we are introducing 23 design-driven small and medium enterprises participating in Maison&Objet Design Korea.Sarah Oh, CEO of mamaforest / Source: mamaforest
Mamaforest, led by CEO Sarah Oh, is an eco-friendly lifestyle brand committed to the concept of a “Sustainable Clean Life!” The brand highlights its dedication to eco-friendliness throughout the entire lifecycle of its products—encompassing antibacterial properties, cleaning power, and fragrance, as well as storage and disposal. Sarah Oh has distilled Mamaforest’s philosophy into three key principles: “Good Ingredients,” “Convenient Functionality,” and “Efforts for a Sustainable Planet.”
One of their flagship products is the Dish Soap Bar, which initiated a new trend in Korea. This solid kitchen detergent is a cold-process soap made without surfactants, using only edible-grade ingredients. Another notable product is the All Natural Dishwash Powder, made entirely from food-grade ingredients, which offers dishwashing, rinsing, and cleaning functions.

In addition, the solid Scalp Repair Shampoo Bar contains over nine times more active ingredients than liquid shampoo, reducing scalp sebum by 92% and strengthening one’s hair. The Bye Tears Shampoo & Body All-In-One Bar is a product that has received an Excellent rating from Dermatest in Germany, providing shampoo, body wash, and baby wash functions.
Other products include the Laundry Paper, which is made from eco-friendly ingredients and combines the functions of a laundry detergent, fabric softener, wool detergent, and stain remover into one convenient solution. Additionally, at this year’s Maison&Objet, Sarah Oh announced that Mamaforest will unveil a new “Eco-Friendly Multi-Use Soap Tray,” designed using the brand’s expertise.

What distinguishes mamaforest’s products is their commitment to minimizing chemical ingredients. Through their research, the team discovered that surfactants, commonly used in liquid detergents and cosmetics, are not only crucial for improving cleaning performance but also for keeping the product in liquid form. They also found that liquid products often need excessive amounts of preservatives and other chemical ingredients for preservation.
Based on these findings, mamaforest concentrated on developing solid and powder products to minimize chemical content. They also dedicated over eight months to researching and addressing the inherent challenges of solid soap, such as its tendency to soften quickly and produce less foam. As a result of these efforts, mamaforest secured various quality certifications from accredited national institutions, allowing them to launch high-quality products that are both safe and effective.
onsequently, mamaforest’s product line has become well-received among Korean women in their 30s and 40s. Sarah Oh mentioned that the products are becoming increasingly popular through customer reviews and word-of-mouth on social media platforms like Instagram.

Among the many standout features of mamaforest’s products, the most notable is their comprehensive range of certifications, which underscore their exceptional safety, quality, and functionality. These products have received an Excellent rating from Dermatest in Germany and have undergone rigorous testing, including for the absence of harmful substances, antibacterial effectiveness, and foaming and cleaning performance. They have also passed various certification processes, such as vegan certification, allergy-free certification, and pesticide removal testing.
The need for such meticulous certification procedures became apparent through mamaforest's participation in last year's Maison&Objet and meetings with international buyers, supported by the KIDP. Based on this experience, mamaforest has obtained various certifications and is now able to export its products this year. Sarah Oh lastly expressed her optimism that, with this momentum, mamaforest will be able to introduce its brand to an even wider range of countries at this year’s Maison&Objet.
