Imported car insurance rise up to 11.3% on average

Car insurance will rise up to 11.3% on average in next year.

On November 27, Korea Insurance Development Institute announced that they will reform the grading system of vehicles and apply to car insurance.

Current grading system of vehicles is rating cars from 1 to 21 according to loss ratio. As car models receive the higher grade, their loss ratio and insurance premiums rise.

Korea Insurance Development Institute will add Top 5 segment to current 21 rating segment. So total 26 grades will be applied to new grading system of vehicles. As they carry out this policy, Top5 car models' insurance premiums will rise up to 160~200%.

According to this decision, 126 car models ratings will change among 206 models. 34 domestic cars of 172 models and 32 imported cars of 34 models' premiums will increase.

Following the adjusting the grade Chrysler, Ford, Infiniti, Peugeot, Valkswagen, Volvo upwards, These car owners will pay more insurance premiums.
Hyundai Santa Fe, GM Orlando is expected to raise premiums as they go up to 8, 7 grade each and SM7, Carens, New pride's premiums is cut down

So far many of foreign car owners could get much benefit of insurance even though they paid less, that's why Insurance policy is changing now.

내년 1월부터 외제차 보험료가 평균 11.3% 인상된다.

보험개발원은 차량모델등급제도를 개선해 내년부터 자동차보험에 적용한다고 27일 밝혔다. 차량모델등급제도는 차종별로 등급을 매겨 보험료 책정의 기준이 되는 참조적용률(등급별 손해율에 따라 보험료를 가중하는 비율)을 정하는 것이다. 상위 등급으로 갈수록 손해율이 높아지고 참조적용률도 올라간다.

차량모델등급은 현행 21개 등급의 상한 구간에 5개 등급을 추가로 신설해 26개 등급으로 조정한다. 상위 1∼5등급의 참조적용률은 현행 130∼150%에서 160∼200%로 높아진다. 주요 외제차 모델은 이 등급에 포함돼 자동차 보험료가 오를 예정이다.

이번 등급 조정으로 보험료 책정 대상인 206개 차량 모델 중 126개의 등급이 바뀐다. 국산차는 172개 모델 중 34개가, 외제차는 34개 모델 중 32개의 보험료가 인상된다. 국산차 60개 모델의 보험료는 인하된다.

외제차 중에서는 크라이슬러, 포드, 인피니티, 푸조, 폴크스바겐, 볼보 등이 기존 6등급에서 1등급으로 상향 조정되면서 보험료가 큰 폭 오를 것으로 보인다. 국산차 중에서는 현대자동차의 싼타페(DM), 한국GM 올란도의 등급이 각각 8등급, 7등급 오르면서 보험료 인상이 예상된다. SM7, 카렌스, 뉴프라이드 등은 3등급이 내려가면서 보험료가 인하된다.

이번 제도 변경은 그동안 외제차가 비싼 수리비 때문에 보험금은 많이 받아 가면서 보험료는 싸다는 지적에 따른 것이다.
