A.I. stands for ‘artificial intelligence’. Intelligence is the ability to think and reason. Something or someone is intelligent if it can acquire knowledge and use it. Humans are intelligent creatures and so are many animals. Plants and non-living objects like machines are not. However, people are making better, faster, smarter machines every day. One machine that is changing rapidly is the computer. Scientists are trying to make intelligent computers. They will have artificial intelligence in the near future.
Even though computers can process and store large amounts of information very quickly, they cannot make intelligent decisions yet. Humans make many decisions every day. We recall information and come to conclusions based on previous results. We make decisions based on our experiences. Scientists want to make computers think like humans do. They are trying to develop software programs that mimic the human brain.
The most common intelligence test for humans is the I.Q test. To find out how intelligent a computer is, there is a test called the Turing test. A person and a computer are asked the same questions. If the tester cannot distinguish between the computer's answers and human's answers, the computer is considered intelligent. However, no computer has been able to pass the test yet.
Artificial intelligence has the potential to change the way we live. However, scientists say it will take some time before any big changes occur. Until then, we will have to make do with our own ability to think and reason.

노혜준 학생의 글은 무엇보다 탄탄한 글의 구성(organization)이 돋보입니다. 우선 노혜준 학생은 “The earth is getting dirty. Who makes the earth so dirty?”라는 질문으로 attention grabbing을 한 후 “환경 파괴의 주범인 인간이 환경 보호에 앞장서야 하며, 이것은 주변의 쉬운 일부터 시작될 수 있다”라는 주제문으로 글의 서론을 구성했습니다. 본문에서는 ‘save paper’와 ‘save water’를 ‘주변에서 실천할 수 있는 쉬운 일’로 제시하고, 그 구체적 예들(supporting ideas)을 들었습니다. Conclusion 부분에서는 환경파괴의 결과 병들어가는 동물, 그리고 인간의 이야기를 하면서 다시 한번 ‘환경 보호’의 중요성을 강조하는 것으로 끝맺었습니다. 이렇게 탄탄한 글의 구성을 위해서는 글을 쓰기 이전에 introduction-(attention grabber+thesis statement)-body(main ideas+supporting details)-conclusion을 잘 계획한 후 글을 쓰는 것이 중요합니다. 이때 유의할 점으로서 노혜준 학생의 글처럼 conclusion에서는 introduction에서 이미 제시되었던 main idea가 반복되는 것이 좋습니다. 즉, introduction과 conclusion은 서로 표현은 달리 하되 거의 유사한 내용을 담고 있는 것이 짜임새가 있어 보입니다. 문법이나 어휘 선정 등에 있어 고쳐야 할 점들이 다소 눈에 띄기는 하지만 전반적으로 잘 구성된 글입니다.
