Just My Luck

Ashley (Lindsay Lohan) is a young professional just out of college. She also happens to be the luckiest woman in the world. She never has trouble finding a cab, a date, a dress, or a promotion. Jake (Chris Pine), on the other hand, is not nearly so lucky. He has no contacts, no charisma, no wardrobe, and he's just lost his job at a bowling alley. However, these two opposites meet one night at a masquerade ball, and by the magic of a kiss, her luck is transferred to him.

Jake gets his big break and becomes a star. Ashley loses everything in a matter of minutes. While Jake's luck with women has also taken a turn for the better, he falls in love with Ashley, and tries to help her turn her life back around as he struggles to win her heart.

For Lindsay Lohan fans, this movie is great; the actress is adorable, cool, and funny. But for those looking for a good romance, they will not find the movie so satisfying. The film focuses so much of its attention on the characters' lucky and unlucky lives that the romance part of the story is almost ignored.

Most movie critics were especially harsh on this movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. There are many parts of this movie that are entertaining. McFly, the band that Jake manages, offers us enjoyable music throughout the movie. The best part of the film, without a doubt, is the screwball fun that results from being unlucky.

■ 총평

에세이에서 Introduction(도입부)은 글을 읽을 때 가장 처음으로 접하게 되고 글의 topic을 제시하기 때문에 에세이 전체 구성에서 중요한 부분이다.

그러므로 introduction에 포함된 topic sentence(주제문)는 읽는 이에게 앞으로 전개 될 글의 목적과 방향을 제시하고 읽는 이의 관심을 유도할 수 있어야 한다. Introduction을 잘 쓰기 위한 몇 가지 방법이 있다. 첫째, 글의 주제와 연관돼 있으면서 읽는 이의 흥미를 유발할 수 있는 구체적인 질문을 제시하고 그와 연관된 background information을 제공한 다음 thesis statement로 마무리 하는 것이다. 둘째, 가장 흔히 사용되는 방법으로서 주제와 관련된 general idea로 introduction을 시작하고 점점 구체적인 생각을 전개해 나가는 형식이다. 셋째 방법은 topic과 관련된 다른 사람의 인용구를 활용하는 것이다. 인용구를 선택하는 데는 주의가 필요하다. 선택된 인용구는 특정한 주제에 관해 권위 있는 사람의 의견이어야 한다. 마지막으로, 상당히 세련되고 읽는 이의 관심을 끌 수 있는 방법으로 글쓴이가 주장하고자 하는 내용과 상반되는 관점을 제시하는 문장으로 시작하고 introduction 의 마지막 부분에 자신의 주장을 강하게 내세우는 것이다.

송서윤 학생의 글은 조금은 미숙한 부분이 있지만 이러한 형식을 잘 보여주고 있다. 상반되는 관점을 보여주는 “Parents have to spend huge money when their children go abroad to study English… Some people would think this place (English Village) is not beneficial to learn English”으로 introduction의 첫 부분을 시작하고 introduction의 마지막 부분에 자신의 주장을 분명하게 표현하는thesis statement(I think an English village is helpful for students)를 제시하는 형식이다.

邦
